Step 6: Hike along the Loire to Souzay

Upon your arrival in Turquant, you have two options for the next part of your adventure:
👉 A full version, featuring a beautiful hike through vineyards and troglodyte villages. More immersive and physically demanding, it is best suited for those comfortable with hiking and able to carry a bag (around 10 kg), especially in warm weather.
👉 A gentler version, continuing the navigation with a shorter hike. More accessible, it is ideal for families, occasional walkers, or those who prefer to limit the effort while still enjoying the scenery. You will still discover the troglodyte caves—the true highlight of this stage.
Take the time to choose the option that best matches your energy level and your желания. For option 2, go directly to stage 6 bis.

Option 1: Full journey (more sporty and immersive)

Once you arrive in Turquant, it’s time to pack up your packrafts. This is where you fully experience the essence of packrafting: alternating between water and land, staying close to the landscape.

The hike begins with a discovery of Turquant, winding between its troglodyte dwellings carved into the tuffeau stone. This unique village, nestled along a cliffside, reveals a distinctive heritage shaped by both people and stone, with local artisans adding to its charm.

You will then continue towards Souzay-Champigny, passing through beautiful Loire Valley landscapes: vineyards, open views over the Loire, and typical countryside paths.

The final part of the hike offers a unique experience: a passage through underground troglodyte caves, once used for winemaking and wine storage. A cool, timeless immersion into the region’s rich wine-making history.
The hike ends on the banks of the Loire, where you can get back on the water.

⚠️ Important for navigation:
When setting off again in your packraft, be sure to carefully follow the map and GPS track for the launch point.

👉 Note: this option is the most complete but also the most demanding. The hike can be fairly long, and under the sun, carrying a 10 kg bag can be challenging if you are not used to it.
