The sandbanks
Description
Sandbanks are natural formations created by currents and fluctuations in water levels. Very common along this section of the Loire, they are a defining feature of this ever-changing river landscape.
Over the seasons, they appear, shift, or disappear, constantly reshaping the river’s course. These shallow areas slow the current and create calmer zones, ideal for a peaceful break in nature.
But sandbanks also play an essential role in biodiversity. They provide resting, feeding, and sometimes nesting areas for many bird species, such as terns and small waders. You may also notice animal tracks, especially at dawn or dusk.
👉 When stopping on a sandbank, please remain discreet and respect these fragile environments: avoid trampling sensitive areas and stick to spots that are already used.
