Maclais Lock
Description
Located in the heart of a peaceful, green setting, the Maclay lock is a little gem of river heritage. Nestled along the Nantes-Brest canal, it bears witness to the ingenuity of 19th-century hydraulic engineering, built to facilitate inland navigation and the transport of goods.
Still in operation today, the Maclay lock offers a fascinating spectacle: the slow and measured passage of barges and pleasure boats, punctuated by the silent ballet of the sluice gates and wooden doors. Visitors can stop to watch the maneuvers, often still carried out by hand, and exchange a few words with the lock keepers or passing sailors.
