Formerly an iron ore mining site, the Glénac marsh has reinvented itself to become a sanctuary for biodiversity. It is home to iconic and protected species such as the European otter, bats that have found refuge in the old mining galleries, plum beetles and marine lampreys.
The reed beds and rushes lining the banks provide refuge for many birds, both migratory and sedentary. However, this fragile balance is threatened by the presence of invasive alien species, such as water primrose, which disrupt this delicate ecosystem. Preserving this remarkable site is therefore a major challenge for future generations.
